Big Ambitions Onyx Private Driver Guide

Onyx Luxury Chauffeurs is the private driver service added in Big Ambitions 1.0. It solves the late-game problem where you spend real minutes driving across Manhattan between locations instead of managing the business. This guide covers how to sign up, how the service works, what vehicles you can use, and whether the contract is worth the cost for your save.

How Onyx works

Onyx Luxury Chauffeurs is a contract service, not a one-time purchase. The flow:

1. Sign the chauffeur contract with Onyx.
2. Own at least one vehicle (Fred’s starting Honza, an Anselmo, or the Onyx-exclusive limousine).
3. Drop the vehicle in Onyx’s garage.
4. Summon a ride when you need to travel.
5. The Onyx driver drives your vehicle while you watch the city or skip time.

You do not need to find parking. You do not need to be the driver. The Onyx driver handles the vehicle and gets you to the destination.

Buying a van and expanding in Big Ambitions

What you need before signing

• At least one vehicle registered to your name.
• Enough cash flow to afford the contract on top of payroll.
• Two or more businesses that require you to travel between locations.

If you are still on the till at your first shop, you do not need Onyx. The contract is for players whose time is worth more than the fare.

The Onyx limousine

The Onyx-exclusive limousine is a luxury vehicle only available through the Onyx service. It cannot be purchased from a regular dealer. To access it:

• Sign the Onyx contract.
• Pay the limousine unlock fee (varies by save state; community notes range around the mid-tens of thousands).
• The limo appears in Onyx’s garage alongside your other vehicles.

The limousine is a status symbol. It does not affect delivery capacity or business income. It is the Hamptons driveway joke at the end of the upgrade path.

Summoning and travel

Open the phone or travel menu and select Onyx. The system shows your available vehicles in Onyx’s garage. Pick the one you want to ride in. The driver spawns and drives you to the destination you select.

Travel speed is based on the vehicle’s stats, not on your driving skill. The Onyx driver drives competently regardless of your character’s driving ability.

You can skip time during travel. This is the main quality-of-life benefit: a 10-minute drive across town can be skipped in a few seconds instead of watching traffic.

Onyx vs. being your own driver

The trade-off:

Onyx advantages:

• Skip travel time instead of watching it.
• No parking to manage.
• Access to the Onyx limousine.
• Your character can rest or eat during travel instead of being occupied with driving.

Onyx disadvantages:

• Contract cost is ongoing (like a salary).
• You still need a cargo vehicle for logistics; Onyx is for your character only.
• Does not help with warehouse deliveries or freight.

Being your own driver:

• No contract cost.
• Direct control of the vehicle.
• Useful early when you are already driving to wholesalers.

When Onyx is worth it

Onyx makes sense when:

• You have two or more businesses in different neighborhoods.
• You are spending real time driving instead of managing.
• Your character’s time doing something else (HQ decisions, hiring, Econoview) is more valuable than the contract cost.

Onyx does not replace a logistics system. Your delivery drivers, warehouse vehicles, and purchasing agents still need to run independently. Onyx is for your character’s commute, not for freight.

Food delivery: a related system

Speedy Bites is the food courier system in 1.0. It is separate from Onyx. Use Speedy Bites to have meals delivered to your home or business. You can also run deliveries yourself for quick cash, but that is gig work, not business ownership.

Contract cost and budget

Onyx contract pricing is not fixed in stone by patches. Community posts suggest a weekly or per-use fee structure. Check the in-game contract screen for current rates.

If payroll is already tight, do not add Onyx. Fix the income side first using make money and the tier list. The rule from the vehicles page applies: pay for Onyx when your time is worth more than the contract, not before.
