Big Ambitions Roadmap After 1.0
Two free updates, then Shanghai -- and what Hovgaard has already committed to on the public Living Roadmap.
Hovgaard Games publishes a Living Roadmap as a single image on the official site. The current version (r4, December 2025) shows five blocks: two are done, three are not. This page unpacks what is actually coming, in the order that matters for your save.
The studio’s own framing is that these are “not promises but a glimpse into what we are working towards” — features may be dropped, dates are estimates only. This page reflects what Hovgaard has published, not speculation. The roadmap image is worth checking directly on the official site for the latest revision number.
Two free updates, then Shanghai
Let the Good Tides Roll — Free content update 1. Not yet shipped.
Upper Bay opens as a new waterway connecting Murray Hill to Industry City and The Hamptons by boat. Rather than driving the long coastal road every time you need to move between districts, you can take the ferry or sail directly. The big yacht gets an enterable, decoratable interior where you can actually live — walk around the cabin, place furniture, and treat the boat as a mobile home base.
The Statue of Liberty becomes a destination you can sail around rather than a distant landmark in the background. It joins the set of named locations you can approach by water, alongside the Hamptons docks and Industry City’s industrial piers. This update is entirely free and ships as a regular content patch.
The Sky’s the Limit — Free content update 2. Not yet shipped.
Midtown Mall opens as a new interior region across from StockCo, holding several player-run businesses under one roof. Unlike a street-level shop, a mall location groups multiple businesses in a shared interior space. A special General Store location can sell any product type, regardless of the normal shop-type rules — effectively a hybrid format that lets you stock groceries, gifts, and electronics in one building.
JFK Airport becomes enterable, with businesses inside and — critically — a travel route to somewhere new. The airport is not just a visual landmark; it is the gateway for the Shanghai DLC. You cannot fly to Shanghai until the airport is in the game.
Shanghai — DLC #1. Not yet shipped.
Fly from JFK to Shanghai and take on a rival named Huang Guo on his home turf. This is the first paid expansion. No price has been announced. The Shanghai block on the roadmap is labeled as DLC, which means it will likely carry a separate cost from the base game. Hovgaard has not confirmed whether existing owners get a discount.
The dependency chain
The order is structural, not arbitrary. The Sky’s the Limit opens JFK Airport, and Shanghai is where that airport flies you. The free update builds the door the DLC walks through. Shanghai cannot land before The Sky’s the Limit ships. This means both free updates will arrive before any paid DLC.
Let the Good Tides Roll does not gate The Sky’s the Limit. You can think of them as parallel tracks that converge at the airport. If the boat update ships first, players will have Upper Bay travel and the yacht interior while waiting for the mall and airport.
What is not on the roadmap
Multiplayer or co-op. Nothing across all five blocks mentions it. Steam lists the game as single-player. Hovgaard called post-release co-op a “dream” in a 2021 devlog — five years and a full release ago. A community multiplayer mod exists; use it at your own risk and understand it is not supported by the developer.
Console versions. The roadmap is silent. The Steam store lists Windows and macOS only. No console announcement has ever been made. The game requires a PC or Mac to play.
The absence of either is not a refusal. A Living Roadmap is explicitly not a complete list of everything coming. It does mean that as of the current revision, neither is something Hovgaard has put its name to. Check back after major updates; Hovgaard has revised the roadmap before.
How to follow along
Join the official Discord server and follow Big Ambitions on Steam. Hovgaard posts roadmap revisions and experimental build opt-ins there. The links page has those URLs. This wiki updates against official announcements, not rumours. When a new roadmap revision appears, this page will be updated to match.
For what has already shipped, stay on the updates hub. For the 1.0 launch notes, use version 1.0. For the 1.0. Build 3672 post-launch fixes, see the same page.
